The Annual Friar Lacrosse Alumni Game will be held on Saturday, September 27 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. All Friar lacrosse alums are invited back to campus, and are slated to compete against the 2009 Providence men's lacrosse team.
Former Adelphi University men's lacrosse player Chad Henry (Acton, Ontario) was selected 52nd overall by the Boston Blazers in the 2008 National Lacrosse League (NLL) Entry Draft. Henry is the second player in the past three years to be drafted into the NLL and the third to be drafted by a professional league, joining Wes Green (2006) and Michael Gongas (2007).
Air Force lacrosse coach Fred Acee announced his retirement today, effective at the end of the 2009 season, according to an announcement from Deputy Athletic Director and Head of Physical Education at the Academy, Col. Billy Walker. Acee will remain in the program this season in an administrative role. Current assistant coach Eric Seremet has been named interim head coach for this season.
Providence College Head Lacrosse Coach Chris Burdick announced on Monday, September 8 that former Friar lacrosse stand-out Bennett Murphy will join the staff as an assistant coach. Murphy replaces Kyle Plumly, who recently resigned his position to pursue other opportunities. He will work closely with the Friars' offensive unit as the offensive coordinator.
St. John's men's lacrosse alumnus Tom Michaelsen continues to make history for the Red Storm lacrosse program, as he was selected 24th overall in the 2008 National Lacrosse League's Entry Draft, held on Sunday at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston. Picked up in the second round by the Minnesota Swarm, Michaelsen is the first-ever Red Storm player to be drafted by both professional lacrosse leagues.
Former Stony Brook University men's lacrosse standout Rhys Duch, `08 (Victoria, British Columbia) was the third overall pick in the National Lacrosse League 2008 Entry Draft held this past weekend in Boston. Duch was taken with the third overall pick by the San Jose Stealth, which finished with a 9-7 regular season record in 2008 and tied for the top spot in the West Division of the final NLL standings. Duch was one of 76 players drafted over six rounds.
With the school year underway, the Villanova men's lacrosse team is returning to action. In order to prepare for the upcoming season, the Wildcats will be participating in select tournaments and events throughout the northeast during the month of October.
Michael Corrado has announced the addition of nine freshmen to the 2009 roster. Matt Bell, CJ Burke, Kevin Cunningham, Dan Gutierrez, Ryan McDonagh, Joe Payne, CJ Small, Michael Vigilante, and Nolan Vihlen will join the Wildcat program.

Finnesey Field received a huge upgrade this summer. Starting June 6, construction for a new turf field on Finnesey Field began and was completed on August 31. Finnesey Field will be home to four field sports for the 2008-09 season.
